Bill Peterson Memorial Scholarship

Portland Soccer Club (PSC) established a scholarship fund that will be awarded annually to a college bound high school senior that has played soccer with the Portland Soccer Club. The scholarship is in memory of William Peterson, one of the founding members of the club and a passionate fan, coach, and board member. The club is accepting donations from friends and family members of Bill Peterson. Donations should be made payable to the Portland Soccer Club, PO Box 262 Portland CT 06480, indicating that this is for the scholarship fund. Please contact us to learn more.

 
Announcing Portland Scholarship Winners 2018
Congratulations to Nickolas Violissi for winning the 2018 PSC Bill Peterson Memorial Scholarship. Nickolas is a 2018 graduate of Portland High School and a former member of the Portland Soccer Club. Chris Donahue, President of the Portland Soccer Club, presented Nick with his $500 scholarship award on behalf of the Portland Soccer Club at a presentation ceremony this past June. This award is based on his accomplishments on and off the field Congratulations to Bettina Burke for winning the 2018 CJSA Central District Scholarship. Bettina is a 2018 graduate of Portland High School and a former member of the Portland Soccer Club. Chris Donahue, President of the Portland Soccer Club, presented Bettina with her $1000 scholarship award on behalf of the Central District at a presentation ceremony this past June.

There will be one $500 scholarship awarded.

The selection committee is accepting written requests for consideration from college or post high school Institution of learning bound soccer players. Applications will be judged on a combination of academic achievement, civic/volunteer activities, and a specific focus on the degree to which soccer has impacted the applicant's life. The required essay (How Soccer Inspired Me to Give Back to the Community) will help demonstrate the role soccer has had in the applicant's development and how the applicant has used that influence to give back to the Portland soccer community.

CRITERIA FOR CONSIDERATION

1. Must be a dedicated soccer player and have played soccer with the Portland Soccer Club for a minimum of two years.

2. Must be a current resident of Portland, CT

3. Must have a B average or better and graduate from high school in 2018.

4. Must plan on attending College or Post High School Institution of Learning in fall.

5. Must submit a 250-word essay on How Soccer Inspired Me to Give Back to Community. Essay must include at the top of page 1:

Your Name, Address, Phone Number.

Past Winners
2017 Kenny Pho. Kenny serves the community as an assistant coach of the Portland Girls U11 travel team, and as a referee. Kenny was the High School Varsity Captain, and plans to attend Champlain College in the fall.
